NIL Again the Focus At Scientific Event

After much success and many inquiries at the AACS show in Las Vegas in January this year, Nutational Infrasonic Liposculpture (NIL), affectionately known as Tickle Lipo for the tickling sensation some patients experience during procedures to reduce fat, was again the focus of discussion at the Cell Society Scientific Event in San Diego February 17-18. The reason for all the buzz about NIL is the quality of adipose fat and ADRC’s (adipose derived regenerative cells) in the harvested fat.

In aesthetic surgery, the quality of fat is a big deal as it helps determine the ability to maintain volume during a fat grafting procedure. Whether it’s using fat harvested for fat loss as a natural facial filler or for a Brazilian butt lift, eliminating the need to “overfill” due to concerns of volume loss is a big deal and may even eliminate the need for a patient to store or bank fat for future procedures. “Most doctors are amazed at the 80-90% retention rate of adipose tissue from a fat graft using our technology” said Greg Miles of Millennium Medical Technologies who has developed a unique process to ensure such results.

Fat Injection During Breast Reconstruction Results Great News For Tickle Lipo

As reported today by Cosmetic Surgery Times and published in the February issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a new technique involving injections of fat followed by implant placement may prove a viable cosmetic surgery alternative for breast cancer patients who have undergone radiation therapy.

Women who have undergone radiation therapy are usually not considered for reconstructive surgery involving breast implants due to the higher risk of complications. A surgical team at University Hospital in Rome, used liposuction to transfer fat from one part of the body and injects it into the radiation-treated area to create a bed of healthy tissue in the chest wall or remaining breast to receive the implant.

Tested by plastic surgeons over a three-year period with 16 patients who underwent breast cancer surgery followed by radiation therapy. 11 of the patients had a mastectomy and 5 a lumpectomy or other types of breast-conserving surgery. All patients received two or three fat grafts then final reconstruction, including implant placement. Results showed that the final appearance of the reconstructed breasts was rated excellent to good in 94 percent of patients and patient satisfaction was rated high to very high.
